Cannabis Policy

With the enacting of Bill C-45 or the Cannabis Act on October 17th, we would like to update our residents on our policy regarding the growing and use of the substance on our property.

First and foremost all relevant federal, provincial and town regulations apply. For further information regarding cannabis use in the Town of Valleyview, Rural Crime Watch and Citizens on Patrol are hosting a Crime Prevention Forum which will discuss the new changes among other concerns within the community.

Secondly, smoking on Klondike Gateway property will be treated the same as tobacco use. We have no restrictions on smoking outdoors and it is your choice to smoke within your property as you see fit. Agreements between landlords and tenants still apply and if you are in a rented unit and have questions regarding cultivation or use inside your rented unit please contact your landlord for clarification. As always we do ask that you be courteous to your neighbours, respect the public spaces and be especially aware of the presence of children.

Regarding growing, we have decided to not allow marijuana to be grown outdoors within the Klondike Gateway Mobile Home Community. This will be reflected in the future update to our rules and regulations. We have decided this for a number of reasons. For instance, the lack of fences increases the likelihood that a valuable commodity grown on the premises will lead to non-residents, or underage people, taking advantage of the situation and trespassing in your gardens. Maintaining safety is a top priority. Furthermore, while legislation has changed, many attitudes will take time to catch up and being a positive neighbour for the greater Valleyview community is also a major goal.

Thank you for your cooperation and we are happy to answer any questions you may have about the changes.
