New Light Installation

When we first took over the ownership and management of what was then the Horizon Trailer Park we spoke to nearly everyone to understand what the community regarded as a priority. A number of residents mentioned that the lack of lighting was creating a space which did not promote the feeling of a safe neighbourhood. We listened and made those priorities part of our phased improvements. This fall, as part of phase two, GGC Management went ahead and replaced the existing lighting infrastructure in the neighbourhood.

The goal was to replace the old, damaged, low pressure sodium lights with something better. Balancing the technical requirements of Canadian winters, affordability, and lighting quality we decided to replace the existing system with solar-powered LED units. They were expertly installed by Talon Electric and have been working nightly for the past month.

The locations were chosen based on comments from residents regarding safety and to ensure that there is maximum spillover onto the road to make navigating at night easier. We also took care to choose lights that had good features for both security and livability. Each light is designed to start at full brightness in the evening, automatically dim over night to allow for a restful sleep before brightening again in the morning. LED lights provide high quality security lighting by nature because they emit a spectrum of light that helps people easily recognize colours. Unlike the orange glow of the old lights these LEDs will allow people or cameras to capture a more clear image of any unwanted activity.

Along with the trial of these new lights we are always happy to hear of other concerns that our residents think will make the nieghbourhood safer and more inviting. In the meantime we hope everyone enjoys the neighbourhood’s added brightness!
